I have an HTC Hero that I just bought. It came with Google Maps. Mine does not have navigation and I can not find Google Maps with Navigation anywhere on the Android Market. Where did you get this? Thanks in advance.

@alphadog1x To my knowledge, Verizon requires the data plan to use the Droid on their service.
7:32 pm on August 24th, 2010
@sttrumpet So I could cancel my data plan and still use Googlemaps on the phone? And for your info: Google DOES NOT offer turn-by-turn voice in canada. Only text popups above your dot.

@z0diacx1 Out of the box “FREE” – Yes. No extra fee, exactly how chuongvision describes in his video here!!!!
9:12 pm on August 24th, 2010
@esikr Yes, it is turn by turn
10:04 pm on August 24th, 2010
@aznvi3tg4ng You do need an active internet connection.
10:14 pm on August 24th, 2010
is it turn by turn navigation?
11:08 pm on August 24th, 2010
@z0diacx1 No, there’s no extra fee above the regular service plan.
11:41 pm on August 24th, 2010
@ZF911
GPS is *not* free on the Droid. Any GPS that has turn by turn on the Droid (or any Droid phone) will require a monthly fee, except for maybe some smaller lesser-known apps. But no, the Droid cannot be used out of the box as a standalone GPS receiver. It will cost monthly on TOP of your regular data plan

@aznvi3tg4ng
yes for the map, gps for the position.
12:38 am on August 25th, 2010
yup, to pull out the map, basic data pack needed
12:42 am on August 25th, 2010
@aznvi3tg4ng Well, you can’t activate the Droid phone without paying the $30 a month internet fee. Most smartphones do this. But unlike other phones, since the internet is required, ringtones, gps, tons of apps, and many other things are all free on the Droid.

Do you need to have internet available to use google map navigation?
1:25 am on August 25th, 2010
very important feature that is much easier just say navigate to ” ” whatever like navigate to ghetty center and it will pop right to the navigation screen and start navigating without going to a browser
